Northern Pike Fishing Line

Well, it is time again for some great Northern Pike fishing information. This time, I think I will talk about the importance of line in choosing all your tackle. The line is the direct connection to your potential trophy, so why would you want to save a couple bucks by having poor equipment? I have seen guys spend $15 a lure but get the worst line possible because they have no sense. You would not choose the worst lure or lures, so why pick the cheapest line?

Now with that out of the way, we should talk about what kind of line to use when fishing for Pike . The first thing you need to think about is the size of the fish in the body of water you are fishing. Then you can choose your gear and tackle. Always assume there are big ones in there if you do not know. Next, choose a quality mono filament line, these are my choice for Northern Pike because they also some stretch. I have broken the line on large fish strikes with the newer non-stretch lines like spider wire.

I think 15 - 20 pound line is a good start. Too much bigger than that and you will have problems casting. If you go weaker than that, a large trophy could get away. They brands I always have had success with are Berkley and Stren. There are other quality ones out there you can find at Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops. Make sure your fishing reel can handle a large amount of these lines too, as a monster fish can run a bunch of it off the spool in a hurry.

So next time before you go Northern Pike fishing , make sure you have the proper line. Do not forget to inspect your other tackle too including your rods, reels, baits, nets, and so on. Good luck!
